Dropped camera... internal damage?

Hi everyone. I'm a beginner and just bought my first camera, and need some advice. I got a Nikon D5100 a couple days ago and took it out for a test drive today. I took one shot, walked a few feet, and promptly dropped it about three feet onto the sidewalk. I had not attached the shoulder strap properly and it came undone. This is a rarity for me, as I am always so careful with these things.

I think the lens hit the ground first, because there is a scratch on the lens cap. However, nothing else looks damaged and it was taking photos normally. But since I'm new to all of this, I was wondering, is there any chance that something could be damaged internally that could affect picture quality? I took several portrait and closeup shots with autofocus and they looked fine. My landscape shots didn't look as clear though, but I would assume that's just from my complete lack of skill at this point (also somewhat low light conditions). I had taken several portraits before I dropped it, and they looked about as good as the ones that came after. So if it's doing just as well with those closeup shots, do you think I can be safe in assuming that I didn't break or knock loose something tiny inside the camera or lens? Should I take it to a repair shop to get it checked just in case?
