Dslr and motorcycle travel

Planned spending my summer on my new motorcycle was wondering if my dslr would be able to handle the road or should I rely on my point and shoot.

I carry both. My DSLR stays in a padded case in my side cases and my P&S in my tank bag. Sometimes it's not worth getting the big camera out for a quick shot and sometimes it is.
