Eclipse

One of the vagaries of having cataract surgery is halos which makes manual focusing a bit of an issue, especially with a shorter WA lens. But, also one of the unexpected pleasures of discovery is after sitting for an hour and a half in 35F degrees, you find a flock of birds who've wandered across the setting moon. Gotta love dumb luck.

The Last of the Great Eclipse

Nice, BD.

I got skunked. Saw the moon rising in the east, still behind the trees. Saw what I thought was some wisps of clouds. "Another 10-15 minutes," I thought, "and it should be just over the trees. With those clouds, it might be nice." Was still late twilight, so could have been some very nice colours.

Set up the camera. Got out the tripod. Went outside to pick a spot and...

"Where'd it go?"

Turned out it was more than wisps of clouds. It had become overcast. Bye bye, moon

Wouldn't have gotten the hat trick, anyway, being in the eastern U.S. But at least the super-moon.

Cool! I like that you got the birds going across. I love the second one, with the moon low in the sky just above the trees and the subtle colors - nicely done.

It was cloudy here, I didn't even bother! We weren't supposed to be able to see the blood moon effect anyway because it'd already be sunrise, or close to it. Now the cloud cover lifted of course, and it's nice and sunny.

BD, nice shots - birds are a great effect - sometimes you have to be lucky.

I didn't even bother to get up for the eclipse. We were socked in with light snow all night and into the morning.
