Egg Slicer: Redux

First, you folks that gave positive feedback were too kind, but thank you. I went back last night and looked at that first attempt again and it is B-A-D!!! I must have been looking at it too long to actually SEE it. Blown highlights, harsh lighting, extremely ugly background and yes...even CB's scratched up glass . I hang my head in shame for even releasing that train wreck.
Here's another attempt. Same bare bulb side light, but, with a rear reflector and a small fill light to fill in the top of the milk and soften the lighting and yes, even a better glass
Thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Oh yeah, and CB? I still ain't slicing that egg :lmao:

This is definitely a much cleaner, smoother shot. I still liked the other one, though. I like texture in a shot, and this one has less texture than your first one. Ultimately, I like them both

Looks better Rick with the more subtle shadowing. Still has that hi-light with the slicer bar shadow on the glass though. Doesn't bother me but it's there....

I liked the earlier one better. It had a lot more character and interest, and the background filled it in better. Blown highlights and all. I don't give a damn about a blown highlight on an egg. There wasn't anything to see there anyways.

This one is very clean and technically better, but is really reduced to just two silky elements, rather than two elements plus a background. You need to add some stuff to the scene if you're going this clean (and the other one, probably would have benefited a bit from another object or two as well, frankly).

Thanks Rick and everyone else for you critique. Sometimes I need to step away and come back with fresh eyes.

CeeBoy's original sledge hammer critique was what made me go back and take an impartial look.

Andrew, while I greatly appreciate your opinion, IMO the original really was a technical train wreck and I do also agree that adding another element may balance the shot better. Thanks!
