Photos NOT OK to edit
Yes, these are just hum-drum compared to some of the amazing wildlife photographs on this site. As I always say, I seem to never be able to get close enough to these birds, so the distance always kills my chances of getting the "amazing" shot. I had paired up my new 5D3 with the new 24-70L II to go out and play with the combo, but at the last minute I realized I could also take the 7D with the Sigma 150-500 "just in case!". And sure enough, the fist little pond I stopped at........................

Now, I know they're a little fuzzy, but I decided awhile back that I was going to start posting my photos and take the critiques so I can start learning something. So let me have it!

I don't see exif data, so which body/lens combo did you use on these? Yes, you need to get closer and closer.

They are well timed shots (liftoff, landing, in flight).

Glad you decided to start posting. You will get better and better real soon!

I used the 7D with the Sigma 150-500. I see that my only solution is getting a Canon 800mm f/5.6L

Compositionally I think they are real nice, a rather strange perch in #1 but I like different

And you are not alone, 99% of us have the same issue. We just need to learn how to get closer to get the shot or spend or retirement savings on a lens lol

A $50 blind can go a long, long way ;)

I don't use a blind my self but its a great idea for getting close ups. Nicely timed shots and good job not blown out the whites, that's half the battle. Good job, keep at it.
