More testing of the 300mm f/2.8L IS USM with the 1D mk IV. All three are of the same egret.

I don't know; I like the curl of the back feathers and you wouldn't get that with an incoming shot.

#2 for me. Lens looks like it performs well.

I agree. Number 2 is a great shot.

Egrets and Heron’s are so much fun to shoot for me for some reason.

I can see that.

Thanks Derrel. Yes, I believe that it is a keeper.

Thank you.

#2 has some wonderful elements working along with the bird. Really nice.

Thank you.

Great set.
Looks like the 300mm might be a keeper.

Nice set! Although not a big telephoto lens (like my Canon 70-200) it does produce some nice pics.

Thanks Zombie, yeah I think I'll keep it around for a season or two. lol.

Thank you. Yes, the 70-200 does produce nice images but that extra 100mm helps. This is primarily going to be a sports (football) lens for me. But since I just got it and there are really no sports going on just yet around me, I am testing it on wildlife.

The 300mm paired with my 1d mk IV (a 1.3x crop factor) gives this combo almost the equivalent of a 400mm f/2.8 on a full frame camera. So I am effectively doubling the focal length of the 70-200 and not loosing the two stops that you would using a 2x teleconverter.

Agreed, that extra 100mm really does help, it's why I bought a 150-600mm lens right after the 70-200mm lens. I bet that's going to be a real nice sports lens for you. > Plenty of light with plenty of zoom!

Thanks Dean. I can see your points on that one. I wasn't 100% sure on it because I was getting side lighting on that one from the angles that I was on. Probably the closest I was to the bird but it felt a little shadowy on the birds front.

Glad you like it.
