Egrets at 1000mm

Great shots! #2 is my fav of the bunch. are you using a gimbal of some sort with it?

thanks 5 is kinda a love or hate it. i just thought it was cool to show an egret flying through the frame. i know not good composition to have out of focus infront and all

nah, just a manfrotto fluid monopod and tilt head most of the time and hand held the rest

i love the monopod so much i dont even bring my tripod with me unless i know i might do long exposure

I should get a tilt head for my monopod. everything looks great with the 500, I can't tell much loss of IQ with the 2x on in most of them (a little in #1), though its probably more noticeable at 100%.

i use a $75 sirui l10 head, its a knockoff of the RRS tilt head, but its still great quailty.

and yes once resized smaller the pixel compression of a 36mp d800 helps with masking soft images. at 100% you can tell, thats why i would rather use the 1.4 and crop, at 5.6 i cant tell 500mm alone vs using the 1.4 most of the time. also autofocus works much better, and was better contrast and less CA

that does look just like the RRS head, I might have to look into one of those....because I added a 600f4 to my arsenal today, :D

nice... i used a 600mm afs-i on my monopod all day one time, but it was a handfull. but also the afs-i is a few lbs more then the vr.
