EMO - STAY AWAY

Emo has just sent me a PM called invitation and the message had nothing but a URL to another photography forum with a very similar name to this one.

I mean I'm already a member at that forum yet he still spams me with it.

I hate you. Bloody emo's.

We try to be as careful as possible with spam, whether it be public or private messages, and do our best to prevent spam for making it to our members. When I recieve complaints such as this, especially from more than one source, some level of action needs to be taken. Bothering our members with what is essentially an unsolicited advertisement isn't something we wish to allow.

Hmm, if Emo owns this other site then it probably is spam, I just got the impression he was trying to make people feel welcome using another site and it does look like a good resource so far.. Fair enough, he should have checked if you were a member before sending you an invite though!

I'm ok with that in terms of posting a message in the links section to say "here is a good resource that people may benefit from", but sending PMs to members to promote or advertise a site or service is unacceptable.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the other site, and their link is actually included in our Personal and Professional Photography Websites section. The owner of the other site actually approached me a while back about posting their link on our site and was very professional with how it was approached, but this is quite a different situation.

He didn't even write a message to go with it. Being a web designer myself, people like this really get on my nerves. He didn't even take the time to realise that I'm already registered there!
