Equipment for Beginner

I recently purchased a Nikon D3000 as my first DSLR. From all the research I did prior to the purchase to the two months of experience I've had with it, I can safely say it's a great starting camera. Since you have some time before you actually get the camera, I suggest you use this time to learn as much as you can about photography. Definitely find an eBook of Digital Art Photography For Dummies, by Bamberg. I also read Nikon D3000 for Dummies, so I'm sure they have one out there for the Rebel. Get familiar with the camera's features/capabilities as much as you can (as soon as you decide which one to get.) Also, Cambridge in Colour - Photography Tutorials & Forums Community A lot of things to be learned there.
As far as hardware go, I'd go with either the D3000 or the Rebel XS. Look up both of them and see which one you're attracted to.
