Error 01: Lens not attached?

So, I just played around with my new Canon 24-70mm 2.8, which I just purchased. My first L glass, I was so excited to have a bit of perfection in my hands, but that bubble burst way too soon

Every couple of shots, an error message (error 01) appears telling me that there is a problem with how the lens is attached, and that I should clean the contacts. I haven't cleaned it yet (I was googling the safe way to do so), but I doubt this is going to solve anything. My other lenses work fine, so I don't think it's the body. And this lens is brand new, so I cant imagine it already needs to be cleaned!

Any ideas?

My camera is the Rebel XSi. I was worried that the weight of the lens might be too much for the camera mount... Could that be it?

Really bummed. Gonna take it in tomorrow

Its the contacts most likely on the lense since its a new problem rather than an existing one.

Clean it with a dry eraser
