Hi all,

I just started to shoot in RAW, and was about to edit some RAW photos today. Or so I thought. Because I can't open the damn thing.

When in iPhoto, there are one JPEG and one RAW of every file, because I choose to shoot both. But when I open a RAW in CS Photoshop 5, it automatically turns into JPEG.

Consider following:

* I got the Camera RAW update in CS 5 Photoshop.
* When I try to find the RAW file through "open" in Photoshop, it won't find it. It will say the photo is a JPEG, and it will be a JPEG when opening.
* Still, in iPhoto, it is a RAW file over 20 mb of size.
* If dragging the RAW file directly from iPhoto into Photoshop, it opens as a JPEG.

I got the files in RAW in iPhoto, but can't open them in Photoshop. Won't find any info about this on the web. Am I the only person with this problem?

Thanks!

open in Abobe Bridge, than select your photos and Ctrl+R or File->Open in camera raw

What camera are you using? What version of ACR? It does sound to me very much like either you don't have the correct update to Adobe Camera RAW, or that the update failed somehow and the system is opening the embedded .jpg thumbnail within the RAW image. Hopefully one of our Mac experts can help shed some light on this.

That's what happens when one application (Apple's iPhoto) isn't integrated with another application (Adobe's CS5).

In case anyone else has this same problem in Windows, the problem there is operating system related. I recently figured this out and it was relatively hard to find the correct answer:

You cannot directly access both RAW and JPEG files while connected to the camera using Windows Explorer (the built-in file browser in Windows). If you want to use Windows Explorer, you need to use a card reader (not plug into the camera directly). Otherwise, it will just show up as 2 JPEG files with the same name when you try to copy the files over.

Aside from that you can use Adobe Bridge or the software that comes with the camera for downloading your files.

I found this a bit irritating because I am kind of old school in that I like to manage and move all my files manually.
