So even though the children weren't very enthused about the photo session, here are a few pictures!

It sucks taking pictures here in Guam because it's always so hot unless its 2am so you have to do photo session relatively quick here.

I gave both to them, I personally like the B&W better.

maybe the last one would look good in black and white too.

I think the B&W conversion for #1 is the better choice due to the colors of their clothing sort of blending with the background.

Here is #2 in B&W....It definitely makes some out of focus points more noticeable unfortunately.

To my eye the top photo (color) is both to blue and to green, while the B&W version lacks contrast and the family could be better separated from the background (more 'pop').

So i used Photoshop CC 2014's Camera Raw and adjusted the color temperature and tint. I also added +35 of Clarity and +25 of Vibrance. I recommend adding some sharpening to the original (Amount = +25, Radius = 1.0, Detail = 25, Masking = 0).

From that edit I used Photoshop CC 2014 and a B&W adjustment layer. I used the default settings but moved the green slider way to the left to make the greens darker.

Maybe my iMac screen needs calibrated but the edit you posted looks waaaaaay too warm to me.. hmm...
