Pic #4 (I am pretty sure this one would look tons better if I cropped off the top)

#1 - Good composition (IMHO), blown out sky...you'll need to expose for the sky and add reflectors to bounce light back on to subjects

#2 - Subject is next to frame edge looking right into it with empty space to the right...I do that as well though it is frowned upon...best to have subject looking towards empty spot...

#3 - Over-exposed sky again...wrong composition...the people in back are distracting from the cute feet...just the feet, rings and towel would have sufficed...

#4 - A little blue and the horizon is severely tilted...crop in closer to the cutie

Keep shooting!

#1) I agree with you on the blown out sky. I was finding that when placing the metering on the sky and fill flashing with speedlite the parents were still kind of underexposed. Guess I am at a handy cap as I don't yet have an arsenal of lighting equipment. Should I attempt any further PP and try to draw more attention to the children.

#2) To be honest we were just arriving for the shoot and I happened to turn around to see the Dad talking to Her and getting that look and I quickly snapped it. He is cropped out of the left pane. So this was a candid shot. But I see what your saying and typically I think I do my best to follow that rule

#3) Agreed again about the blown out sky. I have a number of shots of just the feet, blanket and rings as you describe. I was again trying to show the family as a whole with keeping the attention on the newborn. Would you do this differently or would it look better with a properly exposed skyline?

#4) Agree 100%. When I get home I will re process this one and see if I can make it look better.

Hope this didn't sound like I was rejecting your input. I am grateful for comments.

Thanks!

No, its called finding a solution that works for you, I notice something, you notice something...everyone benefits...That's one of the coolest responses to my responses I've had so thank you as well!

#1 Agree with AgentDrex all the way. And I'd say get the parents a little bit closer, just tighten the depth of field a bit more?
#2 The composition could be balanced by adding something to the top right, like having the mom or dad's handing coming down inside the frame while the girl's hand is reaching up holding it.
#3 AgentDrex is right again!
#4 A bird's eye view of the basket completely surrounded by the grass would be interesting
