Filter question

I have a 50mm f/1.8 with a 49mm front....all my filters are 55mm.....can I use an adapter on the prime and come up to a 55mm so I dont have to purchase all new 49mm filters

Yes. It's called a step-up-ring. In your case, you'll want a 49mm to 55mm step up ring.

You may also want to get a new 55 lens cap, so that you don't have to take off the ring, in order to put the cap back on.
