Most of the downtown area of Attalla, AL is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Etowah Theater (aka Country Music Opera House), was built in 1950 in the "Art Moderne" style a late variation of "Art Deco". Seating in excess of 500, it enjoyed good attendance for over 10 years. The largest attendance ever for a show was in 1965. The theater beat out all the other area theaters for the exclusive release of the "Sound Of Music". Sadly by 1970 it closed it's doors. The Opera house was just a little blip in time.
