FINALLY a good DxOMark rating system review

Err, no ? I own a D600, which tests pretty well on DxO. Yet I am critical of DxO, because the shortcomings are all too obvious.

A camera is more than just a sensor.

Canon has superior autofocus, superior ergonomics, superior video, and some superior offerings (such as their tilt/shift, their supermacro etc).

Nikon has superior sensor, superior flash, and maybe overall slightly lower prices.

Opinion mostly. Sacrificing image quality so you can have a ts lens is a questionable decision at best.
Image quality on Nikon is no better than Canon photography is about light not darkness

The sensor records light. Nikon does it better.
Rubbish

Your argument? I agree.

The fact is, Nikon sensors are better. If you have some proof otherwise, serve it up.
The camera is just a tool and if there is a tool behind the camera no camera will take a good shot

I agree, but that has nothing to do with one company's sensor being better than the other.

The thread opening article already discussed that Canon sensors are no benchmarked against DxOMark, thus they are developed by people using different tools and criteria.

Sony for example claims 16 EV for the Sony A7s ... DxOMark found something altogether different. Luminous Landscape even said the image quality reminded them of medium format. So - who is right ?

Also, no the sensor itself is NOT sufficient for good image quality. The most important value for a successful picture is that you nailed focus. Canon is better at this than Nikon. Thanks to the dualpixel technology, even in Lifeview now.

I find it interesting how Sony's sensors and Canon's autofocus enters a debate about whether Nikon's sensors are superior to Canon.

Because there are a lot of Sony sensors in Nikon cameras

I had an original 7d, have many photos i like, some at iso 3200, one in particular at 6400. Is there noise, ya. However I can find very clean shots at iso 1600 and some noisier ones at iso 400.

Now I have a d7100, story is similar, many high iso shots are clean ,sometimes lower are noisy. Whether one sensor is better than the other is debatable, but definitely the amount of noise often had more to do with how well the shot is exposed

In my humble opinion, just about all ratings are as much opinion as hard measurable facts.

Dont mean to doubt this statement as I am not a tech expert but from what I understood the dual pixel technology is only effective at movie mode and when using the screen but not when you use your optical view finder.
If the user is a pure still photographer like many of us here (me included) then thats not an interesting advantage.

Eh the problem with DxO is that most people only like them when they talk nice about the camera(s) they own. [...]

I like DXomark. I think if everyone read it before buying a DSLR, canon would go belly up. Their tests highlighttbe superiority of nikons sensors. They recently rated the new 7d equal to the 5 yr old d300s.

Which Nikon camera have you got ? Lets see some superior shots from it

I never once stated that a good photographer couldn't get good shots from a Canon. I used to shoot Canon and got plenty of good shots. I'm simply stating, based on all the tests and research I have done, that Nikon sensors are superior. Like if you were shopping for a new tripod, and were trying to decide between two models, and all the reviews say that one of the models is wobbly, they you go with the other one. You do so because you want the edge. Similarly, I shoot Nikon.

You questioning my ability is just another dodge.......... but, since you asked, I won 2013 Photo of the Year on this site, and have been frequently nominated for photo of the month, including October of this year.

Im not debating I would not buy a Nikon I hate the feel of them and the way they handle winning phot of the year on here is nothing to shout about

I agree, you are not debating, you have to make good points to debate. If you don't like Nikon, then don't buy one.

Thanks for the insult, it is what ignorant fools do when they have nothing else to say.
