It's been a long winter and spring hasn't been great so far, but yesterday I was finally able to get out on the kayak and chase birds for a couple of hours. And it felt great. Here's a few from a GoPro that shows the setup I use.

Looks like fun.

Most fun you can have with your clothes on.

Yesterday was just a beginning of the season checkout in a local lake. Once the mountain lakes thaw I go up for a day at a time and it is very isolated and very peaceful. This is from the final trip last year.

Do you find the wildlife easier to approach on kayaks? Wife and I keeping tossing around getting kayaks.
The last photo looks like it's from a car ad! Looks like a beautiful spot!

I find I get much, much closer to wildlife in the kayak. It doesn't mean you can paddle straight over to a bird and not be concerned about spooking them - but by taking things slowly they will let you get much closer than if you were on land. Plus you just get to see so much that no one else has access to.

The photo of my car/kayak is taken at one of my favorite spots - but is still has a foot of ice so it will be another month before I can get up there. Here's a couple from that location last summer taken from the kayak.

Those are three very solid bird images! Nice work, kap!

Excellent set.
You are braver than I. I wouldn't trust myself not to get accidental underwater shots. lol

I did a lot of research about stable kayaks and how to keep camera equipment safe - things are pretty well planned out. Plus everything is well insured.

I have found the Bald Eagles are much easier to photograph from a kayak than land for some reason. Even Green Herons will let you get a little closer. Nice shots!

I completely agree. Some of my best eagle shots are from the kayak.

Any pics of your kayak in action? I'd be curious to see other setups.

Nice shots, I took my iphone onto a Kayak once...dropped it in the water.
