Finally really starting macro work

I bought a macro lens yesterday so I can now finally really get into macro.
I did a lot of maco-ish stuff with my old compact camera but you can't exactly get close enough for the real macro stuff with those things.
Now that I have a DSLR with a macro lens I can really go nuts and I'm already loving it.
These are the best photo's of my first run, more of a test to get used to the lens than to get really nice photo's but still some fun results.

1. Flying hoverfly

This is kind of a lucky shot. I spent about 20 minutes at least trying to capture one of these guys in flight and it is very hard but a lot of fun actually.
I had to crop the photo quite a lot because I got it towards one of the corners. It's quite sharp though so I'm pleased with it.


2. Hoverfly

Another hoverfly.
They don't sit still often so I had to be patient before it sat down and quick once it did.

3. Some other fly

These guys sit still more often so I had lots of time to try and get some good captures here.


They were all handheld with flash on the camera (not the built in camera flash).

Are you using a flash? I highly suggest one if you aren't. The R1 setup is particularly nice to use.

#3 is a good capture. Good job on the BIF.

Yeah I've been looking at that setup, haven't really decided yet though.
