fingerprint on my lens

I stole some "Kimtech" sterile optical wipes from work lol overkill but if they're good enough for million-dollar laboratory lenses...I think they're good enough for a Nikkor :wink:

Probably too good. maybe you should switch to Canon instead.

and for all of the people who don't know buy a nice UV filter to protect your lens! Better to ruin a $50 filter than a $1000 lens!

I buy all of my AC supplies from filmtools in Burbank, they have good prices and a nice selection incase someone doesn't know where to buy lens cleaning supplies!

Good luck, my last lens cost over $1700 and I use a UV filter. If it gets water, champagne, mud or a stone flies up, I want that UV filter to take the fall. :lol:

Only the people with wealth beyond all needs can afford to NOT have a UV or Skylight filter on a $1000 lens.

Oh yes, if it gets gunk on it, I can use a handy wipe, shirt tail, glass cleaner on a lint free Q-tip, or whatever, and never have a worry about ruining the lens.

Come on, which makes more sense? I know people who drive with no insurance and no seat belt, or don't believe in smoke detectors. They will disagree. :wink:

I feel UV's are cheap insurance. If I messed up my lens and knew that a UV filter could have prevented it I would be beyone upset with myself

After a different thread where one member claims that his lens suddenly focused better and was sharped, once he removed the UV filter, I'm convinced that I need to run a test for myself. :lol:

Maybe you'll hear me singing a new tune?

Until then, I'm just an old fart who always uses UV or Skylight filters. Everyone else is welcome to pick and choose as they please. I'm adding that just in case the words I type look like something other than, everyone gets to choose for themselves.

In fact, if I find a small degradation in quality, I'll still use protection for my front elements, because I'm lazy (don't always carry a lens cleaning kit out for a hike in the woods) and not rich. :thumbup:

went out and bought a microfibre cloth (i had some fingerprint on my lens, not mine definately, but still there) one wipe as the shop dude instructed and all gone, amaziing

Not to get off topic again, but where in the world did you buy a $50 UV filter? I may be stupid, but when I bought my camera, with the kit 18-55mm lens, I bought a digital UV filter (Quantam) for $20. Is this really cheap? Or is someone else just paying too much? Sorry... I'm still ignorant on a lot of issues.
