Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
I really didn't think I was going to end up at a fireworks for Canada yesterday, but sure enough there I was, camera in hand but no tripod. To get a shutter speed even close to hand holdable I had to up the ISO to 3200. The results below have had noise reduction applied through Lightroom. I'm including a couple of other shots from the day.

nice pics, but the one that caught my eye the most was #9. very nice highlights and details

7 would be so win if the person wasn't inside the E.

That's interesting you see it that way. I "feel" that without that person there's really no point in the photo. That's why I left the area in colour. Not saying you're wrong -- there is not right or wrong, really.

Who's the girl with the nose bar? That is a personal favorite piercing of mine :)

Others have enjoyed your selective coloring in the past, however I still have yet to be convinced of it :| I just feel it is out of place. If you really want focus on the person then go ahead and crop tight on that person, however if you want the rest of the photo to be relevant than get rid of the coloring. As it stands right now there is little reason to have the rest of the image in the photo. You don't need people in every shot :) I feel like this would be much better without the coloring done, it is just breaking the image up so much.

My reasoning being is that it's a detracting element to the photo, and there's no "feel" associated with the woman that takes up such a small part of the frame. I like the cleanness of the "FEEL", I just don't dig the person because it lacks focus.

It's all really personal preference though. Nice shots otherwise.

I love how the fireworks reflect off the water.

Thanks everyone. Re the selective colouring: to each his/her own I suppose.
Don't know the girl with the nose ring. She was drinking on the same patio as I was and I wanted a shot of her.

To me, I wouldnt have shot it with that high of ISO. I would have used no higher than 800 with bulb mode on a tripod.

Nevermind, I just saw you had no tripod :). If you are only shooting the sky bulb mode and handheld isnt too bad.

So now you understand why you need to use a tripod to shoot fireworks, right?

Thanks guys. Yep, no tripod. I expected to be home from Colbourg (an hour away from Toronto) by dinner at the latest and didn't know they were having fireworks. In other words, before you can decide to take a tripod with you, you first have to know you'll have a need for it, right? The last time I shot fireworks it was planned and I brought a tripod and remote. Worked out great.

What kind of lens were you using?

#9 would be so much better if it wasn't cropped as tight. It appears he's raising his glass for some reason, hence the expression on his face. You've cropped half the story out along with the top of his head, leaving a distracting shiny thing with a disembodied hand in the right corner.
