for @nerwin, since he wanted to see some. Our location Fire Dept. puts on their celebration early so that the town people can enjoy setting off their own for a couple of weeks.

Here are a few from last night. [I got the MIOPS lightening trigger on Friday and used it to take these.]

Sweet! These came out really well. Love the first one!

I don't shoot fireworks anymore where I live unless it's a different location that has a element I can add like a reflection on a lake.

Sweet! These came out really well. Love the first one!

I don't shoot fireworks anymore where I live unless it's a different location that has a element I can add like a reflection on a lake.

Thanks nerwin. These were shot from my front yard, as I live right by the park where they have the celebration. I had something like 20+ people over for a cook-out, so going somewhere for a better composition wasn't an option. I will get better compositional images over the next week or so leading up to and including the 4th.

Like I said, using the MIOPS, I was able to take a few minutes to set up the camera and manually focus and compose the shot and then I sat back down and enjoyed the show without thinking about or messing with the camera.

Yeah when I shot fireworks, I used my wireless remote and triggered it from my seat haha.

I just get bored shooting them. But I love looking at other people's firework photos. It's interesting to see what others do. The last couple years I just recorded them and used my Zoom H1. Just something different to do.

A couple from tonite (July 3). Taken with long exposure times (10 seconds) f/5.6 and low ISO (only 100). Counter-intuitive for night shooting but it turns out nice.

i'm usually between 5-10 second exposures. I haven't decided if I'm going to shoot fireworks tonight or not. I mean, it's the same thing 5 years ago for me. There is not cool foreground element to bring into the photo. Just a field and trees lol.

This is one I took last year with the 24-120 f/4. It's just this year, I have an ultra wide angle. So who knows..I may attempt it. If I don't pack up my gear fast enough, we get stuck in a traffic jam for 45 minutes and it's my fault! lol.

All great, shots, but @ronlane shots seem to have a crispness to them that mine and others lack. Curses to you Ron, you just added a new MUST HAVE accessory to my want list!!!! Did you have the trigger set on sound or light?

Sorry Smoke. Some of that crispness could be post production too. Some of those images are composites, where I blended them using lighten mode and then I also use the LR detail panel to sharpen them. As for the MIOPS, I have it set on lightening with a pretty high sensitivity (around 90 or so). All of the images were shot at f/5.5, ISO 100 with shutter of 4 seconds.

Still timing helps. At least with fireworks, you have some "pre-warning" that they are coming, not so much with lightning. I've been looking at these for awhile now.

Agreed. I have shot some lightening with it and it made it so much easier. Last night I was shooting a fireworks display just before the storms came and the lightening was causing the trigger to fire at the wrong times.
