First attempt panning

Sorry but what is panning?

Panning is where you follow a moving object. When panning you are trying to get the subject that you are following clear and in focus with no movement, and the background blurred. It makes it look like the subject is really moving! Its a lot of fun to do with kids on swings! If the are going fast enough you can completly blur the background and just see the child. I hope this helps

When you follow your moving subject, usually laterally, to keep it in focus; for example using a slow shutter speed while panning a moving car will keep it in focus(if done properly) but blur the wheels and background.

Try shooting something faster because it is easier than panning something slow, keep your elbows tight to your side do not move the camera up or down while panning take about 3 shots and follow through as you press the shutter, when i pan i don't use IS
here's one of a slow subject, my partners horse being lunged @ 1/40

Your absoutly right about the lack of pictures lately. I'm gonna put some up just cause you mentioned that.

And i agree about the compostion of number 1 being better but 2 is way sharper.

I think panning is probably also easier with something moving faster and at a more conistant speed.

Something like this

so basically just tell her to drive really fast and in a straight line.

simple

you turn off the IS? interesting... i'm going to have to try that with my aircraft shots. i've seen a few shots of the aircraft in focus but with a great motion blur of the background and want to try to replicate those results.
