first attempt portrait photos

my friends and i were quite bored after a day of skating.. and i found this pretty cool try so i was like hey wanna shoot some portraits.. and everyone said know except this one.. watchu think..first one is BY FAR my favorite. but sadly its a lil out of focus

Too much background for my taste. The crop should be a tighter to put more focus on the person. Also, the images are kind of small to see any detail. The lighting looks dead on, like a flash or something. Looks like DOF is nearly non-existent as well.

DOF you need some to get out some the distractions all around him!
also get in a lot closer.

I am not really sure that I would call this a portrait, more like snapshots of having fun?

It definitely looks more like snap shots of having fun than a portrait to me - I would agree with the lighting needing to be changed and being closer to the subject xxx
