First camera. First landscape. First post. First criticism.

Howdy.
I'm new to the world of photography, and honestly just got my camera for a vacation.
However, once you start pressing that button, and the shutter opens then closes... well, it's what I would image crack to be like!

So, I am looking for some criticism (naughty or nice).

I'm uploading a landscape photo from Alaska.
One copy will be raw, the other processed.
For the raw, I'd appreciate some advice on how to have taken a better shot (best advice without having to be in the area).
For the processed, well, I think you get the idea.

Welcome to the site. Honestly, you will get better results if you post a copy of the photo on here. There are a lot of people that won't click through to your photo.

Not a bad early effort. I think the yellow saturation looks a bit too high, especially in the lower right hand corner, where it's very intense. It seems to me that the color saturation or vibrance is very high, but the local contrast between nearby areas is a bit low. I know it's an overcast day, but it still looks a bit dull. Still for a first effort, first post, I gotta hand it to you--not bad.

Ok I can see the saturation is too high. So the greenery is too blended, and needs to be more distinguished/contrasted??

Resize them to say 1000px and save as a different file or save for web. You could something like flickr or photo bucket as a host..

The first version you posted is not raw. It's a JPEG processed by Lightroom from the raw file. Your raw file is the NEF file saved by the camera. In the first version we're seeing Lightroom's software interpretation of your photo. In the second version you've made adjustments to that Lightroom rendition and I agree with Derrel you're getting a little heavy-handed especially with the yellow/greens. You've started to clip the red channel in the highlights. Welcome to TPF.
