FIRST camera for action & landscape

Hello everyone,

I am an absolute beginner in serious digital photography and i would like to start taking better pictures i have read MANY reviews, comparisons etc but i really don't have the experience to make up my mind, so please help me if you can.

-What do i want to photograph?
Many of my future photographs would probably be tagged with: Tango, Polo, horses, ranch, green fields, landscape... etc.so i want a camera for (in order of importance)
1-daytime outdoor activities, sometimes fast action, in very large fields
2- an outdoors city life, lively colors, daytime, movement, people
3- i also love taking landscape picture....

is it all possible with one camera?

-budget?
It seems much better for me to buy a second hand camera, my searches have led me to Canon 40D, because of Max shutter speed & high continuous drive (&good used price), but many pictures seemed to be less expressive than what i saw from Nikon D90 or Pentax K5 for example....

-Lenses?
i saw some very impressive polo shots from a 70-300Nikor, i was also told that lens choices with Pentax are limited, is it true? which lenses will i need?



so .... Please help me choose the proper gear for my needs.

For what you're wanting to do, it's more of a lens thing than a camera thing, and you'll be happy with fairly entry level gear. If you want to start getting into lower light stuff rather than daylight, then the equipment starts to matter more because you need the fast (low f/number) glass and clean high ISO performance.

It's all possible with one camera and one lens if you know how to use them both.

If you have the money:

1 wide angle zoom lens
1 mid range zoom lens
1 longer zoom lens

I would start with a good mid range body and get yourself a good wide angle. Look at what most focal ranges on landscape shots, there nice and wide. Master that one, and move on to a good zoom. But you can always zoom and crop shots from a far if there good and crisp.
