This is my first dog photo that turned out more or less (maybe mostly less?) sharp. Settings were whatever I had on the camera... can't remember, still learning how to take photos. He was moving all the time but finally had a few seconds that he mostly sat there. I don't really take phtoos of animals, but he was there at the art festival I did want to take photos of and I do it for practice.

Any suggestions re how to improve would help (mostly interested in improving technique, not so interested in "composition").

Nice looking dog, but I'm afraid pretty much all of my comments would relate to composition, so I'll refrain.

You can comment on composition too, no problem. I'll just explain. This was in an art and music festival, I was just walking around and taking photos, mostly of the art installations, etc. I thought the dog was cute so took a photo oh him (or her) in those few seconds he mostly stood there. This is for practice for taking photos of what I usually do, which are musical instruments, which I set up and choose everything etc. so in this case I wasn't trying to create a composition in that sense. But if comments on that might help me in some way in the future, why not!

I would still prefer comments on how to improve in terms of possibly making the phtoo sharper, better focus, better contrust, etc. All things that should help with my musical instrument photos.

I just looked it up:
Canon Kiss X4 camera
18-55mm IS kit lens
Manual exposure, 1/100 shutter, f/4, ISO 200
No flash

As the photographer you still create the composition, regardless how much or little control you have over the subject.

You do have control, you move to get the best shot or you wait for the Decisive Moment as HCB put it
