What's new

First DSLR

D7000 would be my choice, do to lens selection (it's compatible with nearly 50 years of quality nikon glass).

The pentax is an awesome camera, but the D7000's sensor is just as good IMO; and I'd rather invest in nikon glass then pentax.

If you're really concerned about weather sealing, the d300 is a great option as well.

I'd go with the D7000, its a remarkable camera for the price, I've used it a few times.

Thanks for all of your responses. I do have film minolta lenses however, I do not want to get a Sony SLR, the A55, because of the electronic viewfinder plus I do not like the idea of a translucent mirror.

I got the sensor scores from DXO mark: Again the D7000 is the highest for high ISO for what I am looking at, Pentax K5 best overall.

I hope someone comes by and says these are wrong, and the D300s, actually has the best High ISO performance, because that is the one I want, if not have to wait for the next one with a new sensor.

Its a Daft responce,but weather sealing isnt allways a big focus i seem to find when i look at a camera.My T1i go's in a thick Sandwich bag,which seems to keep the rain and sprey of rivers/sea off the body and lens. saying that,if you like the Feel of the 7D go with that,but go see what the D7000 feels like first,before making any big decisions

I think what I am going to do, is wait till late March to see what comes out. By then I might even have enough to buy a D700, but I want to see the next version of the D300s. It might be my only lens for a while, so what would you get the 50mm 1.8 or the 50mm 1.4?

If you can afford the 1.4, go for it, but the 1.8 is a good comprimise if moneys tight.

Ok so I found something interesting:;

I found my fathers old Minolta Maxxum 7000(which has not been used since I was a toddler):

He has the AF 28-85mm lens, but he also has the 70-210mm f/4

Should this change what I get? The full Frame Alpha 850 is only 1899.99 on Adorama. I was also thinking I might get a Cheap used Sony for now <$600, and hold off purchasing a new Nikon or Canon till the D300s, or 7D are refreshed.

Are these Minolta lenses any good? Both are in very good condition (the camera somehow is not?).
