I feel little rusty in my hawk ID, but I believe this is a Juvenile Red Tail. Didn't have much light this morning. Shot these with the Sigma 300 F4.. Comments Welcome...

great pictures as always.
Love the 3rd one with the slight blur in the wings

What differences do you see in subject isolation between a 2.8 and a 4 300mm lens ?
The price diff between a NIkon 2.8 and a 4 is quite significant.

Beautiful bird! #1 is my favorite. I really like the last one too, but would like the see the highlights brought down a bit and maybe some more contrast, if possible. Good shots under the conditions!

I like #2, but i like the left side look right more of #1 but the OOF limb is just a tiny bit more distracting then the background of #2

Hawks are always fun to shoot.

Im looking forward to you photos tomarrow with that 120-300, shoot that beast wide open and give us some fall bookah

Hey, in my personal observations using a bunch of high end nikon telephoto lens, some borrowed and some owned, i would say the subject isolation is somewhat less drastic between f2.8 and f4 at 300mm and up. I find the biggest plus to the 2.8 glass is the massive increase in light for low light situations to keep you shutter speed high and or iso lower

I would agree with Matthew on this one(see below).. I will hopefully be able to show you soon with some test shots..

Thanks! I brought the highlights down to -38 which is the point that LR showed the Highlight clipping. I tried to bring it down lower but it didn't make much difference. The shot was just tough with the grey sky.. I went back and forth with the contrast. Thank you for your thoughts!

As always these are excellent, and I kind of like #3 as is. The important bits are sharp.
Thank you!

I tried to get around a little further but the Hawk took flight too soon... It's here and it's pretty :) Started a thread in the lens section :)
