Photos OK to edit
I shot this in my back yard. I give you guys a lot of credit for all the great pictures! I took quite a few shots to get this one but I am going to continue it was fun.
Thanks for looking, Henry

Thanks Henry

hmm which lens did you use for this shot? EXIF says 105mm which makes me think you use the 105mm macro lens. If that is the case put the crop tool away - its a valid tool, but not for crops quite this big ;). Instead head out - find another hoverfly and shoot closer, a lot closer. Shift your AF to manual mode to get control over it (most times close up photography is just too dim and too fine for AF to really get a good lock on without a lot of hunting - so shift to manual focusing). You should be able to get a shot pretty much the same as your crop, but filling the whole frame, with that lens.

Yes I did use the 105mm. I plan on going out and practicing. It seems a lot harder than what it is. I had tried manual mode and found myself moving in and out kinda like swaying I will just have to do a lot of trial and error until I find what works for me. Thanks for the help.

The swaying back and forth is a key skill and part of macro work - at these close distances its far easier to set the magnification/frame and then lean back and forth to get the focus - taking the shot at just the right moment (and this in itself takes practice as you lean to squeeze not hammer the shutter, since the act of pressing the shutter itself can shift the focus if you are not careful).
