first pet pics with new canon 40D

just got my first SLR and started playing with it today. still a ton to learn to please any and all comments are welcome. our african gray is just as curious about this camera as i am i think

I like the first with the catchlight in his eye! Chosen DOF might have been just a tad too shallow, would have been nice not ONLY to have that (perfectly focused!) eye in focus, but also the beak and the feathers, in short, the whole bird (as far as we can see it here).

i guess i have to learn more about DOF. i posted two sets of pics and both comments are about needing a wider DOF.

i dont fully understand how to change that just yet. still playing with the auto modes.
