Pretty nice, what lens?

While a good capture, it appears a little underexposed. If you were on manual, and set your camera according to the meter, I would bet that it metered on the brighter sky. f/5.6 was probably ok, but should have probably been 1/250 sec or maybe even slower to pick up the detail of the bird. Just my opinion. It and about $5.00 bucks will buy you a cup of coffee at Starbuck's.

Very Nice!! I love cardinals

Yeah, cardinals are my favorite birds. Thanks for the comment and welcome to the forum!

Nice. Enjoy your new D80. I love mine.
thank you, i shall.

Thanks, I used a Nikkor 18-135 mm lens. He wasn't too far away, if you set up a bird feeder, they will let you get fairly close to them.

Yeah, you are right, all my others were quite a bit under exposed. It was early in the morning and my house was blocking the sun from being right on the bird. I will definelty set my shuuter speed a little quicker in the future. thank you for the help!

A faster shutter speed will make the photo even more underexposed. You want to use a slightly slower shutter speed to let in more light. Or you could use a slightly higher ISO setting (ISO 200).

1/500th of a second with 110 ISO is why it came out underexposed. Try using a slower shutter speed and a higher ISO ;)
