Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
I just took these today. I'm trying to get into Macro Photography, but I don't have a lens yet. I shot this with a Nikon D5000 with a 70-300mm lens fully zoomed, ISO 200, 1/1600 shutter speed and at f / 5.6.

For some reason I can't get the image to add to the post so here's the link.

Ok. Figured it out. I know it's not that interesting, but it's all I had to work with today since it's winter. Let me know what you think and what you think I could/should do to improve. Thanks.

Hey Bev!!! Welcome to the forum!! You'll get a lot more responses if you have the pictures directly in your post. Look up above and you will see a link that will help learn how to do it. Just ask if you are having trouble.

How do I post them if I don't have a photobucket account?

You need an account somewhere to hold your pictures. Most people use Photobucket or Flickr. They are both free. ;)

You probably won't get a macro shot with that lens. I've done a bit of research on it, and it won't be very sharp at f5.6, or at 300mm. I'd recommend 200mm at f8 for maximum sharpness, but then you'll lose the shallow depth of field you're looking for in macro photography. In other words, that lens isn't ideal for what you're wanting to do.

Is your 70-300 the VR version?

I know I won't get a macro shot with it, but it's the closest I can get for now. And no, it's not the VR version.

In this shot your shutter speed was plenty fast. I'm guessing the softness of the photo wasn't from camera shake, but from being at 300mm and f5.6. If you shoot at 200mm and f8, I can guarantee a sharper image. You might have to bump up your ISO a bit to keep your shutter speed at about 1/250.

I'll try to remember that for next time. I also did a little bit of processing in Lightroom after I took it as well.
