First serious shot with my equipment...

I just purchased an old NIB system, and this was one of the first serious pictures I took with it. It is just a simple and quick head shot of a friend for his Facebook profile pic.

I know it would be better without the shadows on his head and face, but it is only for a profile pic, nothing more.

I like it. I don't mind the shadows as much. And I do appreciate how you separated the subject from the background. Nice choice of aperture. Something makes his near shoulder look huge. I can't tell why this is so? But his smile is natural and genuine and friendly. And the light (from a setting sun?) is nice.
