Ok, not too bad so far for your first shoot. Pretty good composition so thats a plus, but look up the "Rule of Thirds" :) (I'm guessing you're new to this, forgive me if I'm wrong.)

here's a couple tips.

you generally want to focus on the persons eyes in a portrait, unless otherwise decided.

using flash creates very harsh lighting.

#1 ... you shot at F1.8.... notice how the hands are somewhat sharp.. the face is OOF? Shooting wide open is not a good idea unless you know what you are doing. Flash would have been nice.. to fill and to allow proper background exposure. It is blown.

#2 in focus at F2.8... (whats with the makeup?) :) On camera flash .. You cut off the top of her head.. portrait orientation would have been better. The shiny circles in back are very distracting... need to watch your backgrounds. Shot in EASY (full auto) so the camera did a decent job.... all you did was push the button! :)

the problem i kept on having was the camera wouldn't take the picture.. it kept on saying busy when i would go to shoot.. anyone know why? however, it was dark outside and this was just a little last minute hey lets take pictures kinda thing!

No, using flash incorrectly creates very harsh lighting. I almost always use flash :)

Yep, I always use several flashes. You need to learn how to use it correctly.

For some odd reason this girl reminds me of Rebecca Black.

Gotcha, next time just say using it incorrectly is wrong, just so they know that flash is a very good tool :)

the first shot is out of focus. but the stability is ok
the second photo you should eve tried to take in natural light instead of using flash. the flash kinda spoils the photo !
