On my way to B&H in NYC to pick up a new bag, I came across this man asleep against the wall. Took the shot, converted to B&W, upped the contrast a bit and cropped tightly. Taken with my A700, Tamron 28-75 2.8 SP. Would love to hear your thoughts:

I like it !!! Very nice feel to it Idk thats just me.

Looks good... The sign behind almost fits perfect..hehe

Thanks all. Brahm, you're so right about the color version. This was a gritty scene, and the color version was too clean. The B&W edition accomplished the mood and story I saw in front of me. Thanks all.

I would get closer and wider, but not bad

This one reminds me of my first forays into street photography which I happened to take in NYC, too, and I felt like converting mine into black&white, too, back then. The colour versions just didn't say "street" well enough. So yes, I think you did well.

Happy New Year to my source(s) of inspiration, knowledge and humor. Here's to an even better year than 2010 and to the start of an awesome new decade.

Happy New Year to you all!
Best,

I like it a lot! I wonder if the background was a bit blurry - how that would affect the picture? For me, the words in the background compete for attention with the guy. I think it's a great capture and I definitely like the B&W!

I was there yest too!! Went to B&H for the first time and was amazed lol. I would have spent more time in there if my girl was eager to leave lol. I did spend 12$ there Hahahahaha. I love the pic. I took about 200 pics first time in raw and I don't think I'm happy with any of them. But again great shot. I was looking for this shot def missed it.

I would have move quite a bit to the left and forward in order to get rid of as much of the cluttered background and include more of the wall that the guy is leaning against. In that manner you would also have gotten rid of a chunk of that large solid black area on the right.

Of course, I don't know what story you wanted to tell.

I agree with the B&W choice although I didn't see the color. To me street is and should be B&W. I rarely see colors street shots that I like.

If you haven't seen it yet, there is a very nice thread about street shots and you may be interested in it. Here is the link:

Cloud,
I completely agree moving left. After I downloaded the picture and looked at it critically, I had the same thought. Moving closer wasn't really an option since I didn't know how long the picture opportunity would present itself.

Thanks for the critical look and I can't wait to dive into the link you provided.

it's a nice conversion

i think for this one a wider view may actually be better... i'd like to see more of the surroundings...

btw street is great in b/w or color... just depends on what it is...
