First Time Lapse

I joined a meetup group in order to learn how to shoot time lapse. Unfortunately, the weather called for rain so the group was cancelled. I was already on site so figured why not. The Photographers Ephemeris said that the sun would set right down Memorial Highway so I took a chance that it might give me some good colors with the forecast of rain. Well I didn't get any sunset, so I concentrated on the clouds and the traffic.

This was shot at ISO 100 in manual mode of F/9, and 1/15th of a second with an interval of 30 seconds and a total of 600 pictures.
Processed this at 30fps.

Did another one from Gravelly Point towards Reagan National Airport the next night, and planning on heading out to do some more traffic shots later in the week. (sorry don't know how to show a preview of a video on flickr pages).

Having said that, the time lapse looks interesting, not my kind of thing, but if it is yours, then that is all that counts. Would you care to provide some idea of the technical aspects of this imagery? How did you this - equipment, timing etc? I, for one, am always curious about the technology that people use to capture these kinds of things.

I like to location, but I would suggest a longer exposure to get more blurring of the lights. Dusk is a very hard time because the light changes so much.

As far as equipment, I was using my Nikon D5100 with a kit lens 18-55mm at 55mm. My Nikon his it's own meter for setting up time lapse photography.
After I saved all of the files I used Windows Movie Maker to combine the pictures into the movie.

How much slower are you talking for blur? I meant I started out at 1/15th of second. If I lowered it more, that means the interval would need to be longer as well.
