The Flashpoint 320 came with very little instruction ... same w/ my Cowboy remote trigger setup. Can anyone give me a heads up?

Here's what I have:

D80 w/ 18-200 lens
SB-700 flash
Flashpoint 320M w/ umbrella (no battery pack)
Cowboy Studio NPT-04 radio trigger (1 transmitter & 2 receivers)

For example, I can see how to attach 1 receiver to the bottom of the SB-700. But, I am not sure how/where to attach the other receiver to the 320m. And, then how to setup my D80 and SB-700 so they know my setup w/ the flashes and remote triggers.

Thanks for any info.

The Flashpoint has a built-in optical slave, so if the CAMERA-connected flash is firing in a NON-preflash type of mode, the 320M can be triggered by using the built-in OPTICAL slave triggering function it has. Easy-peasey, as long as the camera's NOT using a TTL type metering mode that fires a pre-flash; if the camera-connected flash is firing a pre-flash, THAT initial exploratory flash will trigger the 320M's optical slave, and the synchronization will be "off". Besides, you do not, I repeat, you do not want to use TTL flash metering when also using a studio monolight. You want the camera-connected speedlight flash to be in a manual mode, about 95% of the time.

Otherwise,to connect the triggers, you need to plug in a connecting cord to the Synch outlet on the back of the 320M, and run that cord to a Cowboy trigger receiver. Do you have the proper cord, which would be a microphone-style plug on the 320M and, I am guessing, a 3.5mm mini-mike that goes into the Cowboy trigger receiver units.

Derrel,

I've always used TTL for the built-in flash. So, setting it to Manual for the first time and using the 320M and my SB-700 as OFC will be a challenge as a first time I guess. Given I've never used manual flash, I'm not certain how to use the camera so that it will work with my ofc's. It looks like I'm a bit lucky, the way I have it setup now, I can get the 320m to fire, but my SB-700 isn't firing. Thoughts?

Or, should I simply leave my sb700 on camera ... and bounce off ceiling or opposite wall as a initial test w/ using the 320m?

Thanks,

I was finally able to get the sb700 to flash off camera after setting it to GN A/B. But, the amount of light is too low ... everything is underexposed. Not sure yet how to set the amount of flash in this setup.

Slightly off-topic, but I got the same trigger today.... sadly though my flash's hotshoe isn't big enough for the pins to line up correctly. Good luck!
