First time using DSLR...c&c plz

Just playing around this morning with my daughter...liked the way it turned out but of course i know it needs improving.

Nice. I don't see any exposure problems. It's noisy, I assume you used high ISO. Noisy isn't bad, it's just a thing.

The depth of field is very shallow, far eye is out of focus. Pretty cute, I like the muted colors!

what dSLR is it? Noise per ISO range will differ depending on the camera. For an example. Mine shoots real clear up until 800+ ISO, and the D7000 is real clear up until about 1200+ISO.

Always in the Exif if you check (and if the OP leaves the Exif in the image)
