Fitness-themed photoshoot with a coworker

You really hit your stride on #3--so much presence! Fabulous lighting, especially on the arms and torso! He totally commands the frame! I don't even mind that pole in the BG. Kast shout need a bit more room near the elbows.

The background in the first two is quite distracting. The clock, the whiteboard etc. It's just too messy.

But number three is great. That lighting style works well for the subject/theme.

What they said! The third is excellent. The other three are alright, but pale in comparison.

Cheers!

This is the crossfit area of the gym, and my subject is known for crossfit. In that context, the "messy" background is OK in my opinion, especially since I was controlling my ambient light levels to darken it. All those items you see are there for a reason for the crossfit people, so I didn't mind having it in my shot. It's all part of the story being told. ;)

Makes sense. They just distract from the individual, that's all. But context is important. Maybe having them blurred more would help?
