Flash L-bracket help

I'll be photographing a Relatives Wedding in October. I was pondering whether I should get an L-bracket. What are some advantages to having an L-bracket mounted?

They get the flash away form the lens. This will help avoid red-eye and will give your pictures a little more depth.

It allows the camera to rotate and still keeps the flash centered above the lens. It's spendy, but I'll never have to upgrade it.

As far as what flash to use, I've had a Vivitar 285 for years and it has been a great flash.
