Keep in mind that the flash will still fire, because that's how it communicates with the slave, but if you have it set right, it won't fire during the exposure.

Mike, if he set it to 1/128 power wouldn't that work too? That is if he's not 3 ft of the subject. I remember even at 1/64 the flash barely did anything.

You're probably right, but it would depend on the exposure settings & the distance to subject etc.

Although...Can you have the master flash in manual mode (where you can set 1/128) while still having the remote flash use E-TTL? I not sure.

No both will be manual and change ratio with the slave putting out more power than the master. B:A
