Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
I ran this through quite a bit of post processing.

Not bad, the flower is nice and sharp on my monitor, as it should be. The only problem I see is the bright background - my eyes went right to the OOF orange area on the left side of the image and eventually wound up at the flower - it is fairly well established that the eye is first attracted to "bright" colourful areas in an image, whether it is in focus or not. Would have been better if the entire background was darker, something like the background immediately behind the flower. Also, the flower is more-or-less centred, might have been better to place it in one of the "thirds" positions, either left or right side. Anyway, that's my 0.02¢.

Cheers,

WesternGuy

How about now?

I see you are cropping to the rule of thirds now, does that mean you read the link I gave you in your other thread?

Yup yup. I never realized how much better a photo looks like that. Thanks for the advice.

Keep in mind, a centered subject isn't always a bad thing. You have to pick your poison when composing a shot. Ask yourself what about the object you are photographing made you take that shot. Then make that the focal point. Also ask yourself, what message do I want to get across? What's the story I'm trying to tell? What do I want my viewer to see/think/feel? All of this needs to go into the photo in order to make it impressionable.

I've realized over the past few days there is a lot more to photography than just clicking the shutter.

Another thing, you generally don't want to have the subject "dimmer" than it's environment. You wan't all attention focused on the subject. Also, selective coloring is an undesired effect. Many people frown upon it.

All good advice. How can I get the center of the flower to focus in better? I don't think this camera has manual focus.

It's in focus, it's just in a shadow you are casting.

I agree with the first things that's been said. the flower is too dark compared to the background. Try at have your subject brighter than the background, else the background will steal all the attention, which isn't ideal. Here's a quick edit:
