I firstly poured water over this flower hoping to create a sort of "morning dew" affect by catching some drops on the petals.

any comments welcome

I'm not fully versed on the technique but I understand you are to add something to the water (gelatin?) to make it bead on the surface better for a photo. Otherwise, a bit more color saturation and possibly a dark or less busy background might improve this shot.

If you had Photoshop (which I don't) you might try blurring the backround more, I think it distracts from your main subject. Still a good image though.

though the dof is good, that other flower on the left is still distracting.

Just get a spray bottle and mist it. Works great! Good pic, but I agree about the other flower being distracting.
