focus point in view finder

I have a Nikon D7000. I can't seem to move the focus point when looking through my viewfinder. Once the shutter release is pressed halfway down, I can then see the focus point, however when I use the arrows on the multi-selector, nothing happens....what am I doing wrong??

the focus selector lock is currently set to (the dot) which means, i should be able to move the focus point around...correct? For some reason it is not letting me move it at all...?

Is the camera set to single-point focus mode?

Turn off- Auto Area AF
