focus question

i wear thoes over the counter reading glasses to help me see but I'm not sure if when I try to focus that the ppicture is sharp..then when I get the photos back they are out of focus.is there anything I
do to help with this problem?

What kind of camera, lens, etc are you using.

Usually on dSLRs there is a diopter (?) adjustment for the view finder.
I used this to adjust it so I don't have to use glasses when looking through the view finder.
I first adjusted this by using the focus meter in the camera and set it to my eyes for in focus .. if this makes any sense.

It's recommended that you lose the glasses when taking the photo because I have seen many professional photographers remove their glasses when they take a picture.

Personally, I also feel comfortable without glasses.

However since my P&S does not have diopter adjustment (or manual focus for that matter) most of my images are in focus with or without the glasses. :mrgreen:

If you're using only reading glasses you shouldn't have any problems focusing except the image is really close up. Unless of course you leave the glasses on! But as everybody says, use the adjuster. Or autofocus

I've tried tried adjusting the diopter on my nikon; and without glasses its all still blurred (too much to use manual).

I don't consider consider myself to have exceptionally bad vision (lenses are -1.5 in left and right)
But I sure sure can't bring that viewfinder in focus without some corrective lenses.

Is my vision too bad for the viewfinder to correct?

Just grab whatever you have around the house and put it on the table with a painting in the back of it. Now try to focus back and forth between the object on the table and the painting.

Do you have focus-spots in your viewfinder? They will (at least in a Nikon) light up red when you press the shutter halfway, and wherever that point is, is where the camera will focus. If you are using autofocus(and by that I mean where the camera selects what to focus on), you should be fine. Are you shooting in low light with a slow shutter speed? The blurriness may be as a result of camera shake, and have nothing to do with focus. Can you post some examples, as well as the exif data?

Well the down&dirty way to setup your diopter adjustment is to use something with print. You set the camera on a tripod, or on a table top alone, and focus on the target, then adjust till you see the letters clearly. I like using cereal boxes, or boxes with printing like that. You just zoom it till you get nice sized letters to work with. I need reading glasses as well to read, but not for anything else. I set the diopter, or check it when I am using my manual lenses to make sure it get the focus right.
