Forces of Tide

Returned to one of my favorite locations on the Oregon coast. There was a storm between Hawaii and the coast which generated some huge waves here on the coast.

Yeah, I don't know if you're using them for scale, but I agree, I think they should jump and get out of your shot.

I like the couple on the cliff, it adds a human dimension and a bit of drama to the photo.

A truly powerful photograph. Not sure about the couple. I think the wave is the drama here, however. Maybe the couple can be a calming counter balance.

I agree that the couple does not lend drama to the picture just by being there, but what they do lend is both dimension and depth/size... lending to the picture a sense of size and such of the cliff.. the power of the wave and the pure size of it as well. In turn lending drama on a grander scale with the wave. Without the couple this picture would loose a lot in my opinion.

I generally love your images, but this one the waves are too soft from start to finish. Maybe if they started stronger and then ended softer? There also seems to be a bit of distortion on the rock bluff. Maybe I just had too many beers during the Superbowl?

Very similar to my thoughts on keeping them in the image. Even if these people are 5 feet tall, it gives the viewer a sense of just how massive and powerful the wave is when it crashes into the cliff.

Without the human element, I'm not sure if it would be immediately clear the size of the wave. Would the image be as interesting or more interesting without them ? I don't know?

Perhaps for what they add to the image they also take away...

The waves aren't soft, it's the use of a slowish shutter speed. I like it, and I think the people in the shot works...

Why is the area where the waves hit the rocks look....melty? It looks that way ALL THE WAY tot he end of the photo on the right.

I would like the people if they didnt look like they were made out of rock.

I definetly FEEL the power of the water though.
