Fostering Community

After the recent situation, I think we should try to further foster a sense of community... I say we all draw names and have a gift exchange. Ok, that won't work.... ummmmmm, how about a potluck? :Joker:

I was thinking of that, too. That would be cool. I took part in a couple when I belonged to the B&W Digital Photography Yahoo group. It was a lot of fun. It can be a bit of work for the coordinator, though, if it's a large group.

First they got commitments from everyone who was going to be involved and what the size range of the prints would be. Then each person would make that many copies of their image minus one and mailed them to the coordinator with a return envelope/box and return postage. The coordinator made a pile for each person with one of each print except their own, and then mailed all the packages back.

One I took part in involved people who were on the bleeding edge of digital printing, like Paul Roark. It was pretty amazing stuff. It was really cool to see what all the different inkset and paper combinations looked like, not to mention the great photography.

We could do something like 8x10 to 8x12 as the print size. 4x6 would be cheaper for people, but I don't think that's much better than posting them on the web.

I also took part in a 20 Things... swap. It wasn't all photography, but it was pretty damn cool. They did it pretty much the same way.

I was thinking the other night it would be cool to have a photoforum band. Just pass around the sound file and folks can add their part and send it to the next person. Or we can colaborate a piece with one composer (me maybe) and write out parts for every instrument that people play.

Just get a microphone and hook it into your computer. That's what I do.

Well I usually have to fix it up in an audio editing program. I use Cool Edit to take out the background noise.

I was never good at car stuff. Of course my first auto repair was replacing the clutch on my 1974 Volvo. Hadn't even changed my own oil. It was my last repair.
