I don't want to check a bag but it's Southwest so I can for free if I need to... What is the current status on taking a tripod through TSA checkpoint if it's packed away in my bag?

Last couple of trips I either put it in my checked bag or left it home so not sure what the latest is. I would like to bring it along in my carry-on this time.

If nothing else, I think I can loan you mine - I don't plan to use mine, though I might bring the monopod. I'll just have to figure out how to get it to you so you can use it in the evenings.

I have never had a problem packing a tripod in my carry-on bag. I've never been asked to take it out.

OTOH, TSA is now saying that if you have food or snacks, those need to come out of your bag.

Feel free to print off some of these and put them on each side of the bag. That way you'll also get a full body cavity search free as well!:biglaugh:
