Photos NOT OK to edit
Hi guys, I'm pretty new here, so here are just three black and whites that I shot recently.

If you feel like checking out any of my work, feel free to follow the link to my website.

I find #2 to very interesting.
I'd like to see it cropped much tighter - the background is not serving any purpose.

Which is precisely why the background is out of focus.
The frame is as wide as it is to allow for the headroom, which puts the subject's head closer to the center of frame, which in my opinion, is where it belongs. You'll notice this with almost all of my portraits and street photography.

Wow... 5 posts and full of salt and vinegar

And yet, with the photo of this same person on your web site, you seem to have done more or less what I suggested (crop tighter). ;)

Your work is very good. If I have anything to say about it it would be that too much of it has the subject smack in the center of the frame.
While this works well for many of your compositions, I think that others suffer of bit as a result.
You have a good eye for finding natural frames.

I was expecting to see some hunting pics.

Because I'm from Canada?

I do actually hunt, and I certainly have lots of photos from those trips, but so far none have made it to the site.

Allright, point taken. Thank you.

I'm not sure why, but I've always thought that the horizon should be put in the middle of the frame, and the subject should be center, with "too much" headroom. Despite everything I've ever been told about rule of thirds composition, I find myself more attracted to symmetry.

Unless you're being paid, you have to shoot in a manner that suits you best. You can't fully enjoy a hobby trying to please others.
It may cost you some C&C hits, but I wouldn't know anything about that.

Because of the title probably (the hunting reference) although to me it meant what was intended. You have subjects centered but yet not perfectly symmetrical (which I find more interesting in most cases); there are patterns, lines, etc. that are asymmetrical (tree branches, shadows, overhead lines, etc.). Even the solitary tree has different shapes and tones on each side of the tree. My favorites are that one and the buildings both without and with power lines.

I'm a hockey fan so when I see someone's in Canada I'm looking to see where (which of course I associate with what team(s) ).

No, as vintagesnaps said it was the title "Fresh Blood".

Just where my head was, as I read it.

I quite like the 1st photo.

The diffuse highlight posterization in the 2nd photo is pretty distracting.

I like the first shot. I can't quite articulate why, I just do. It's really nice.

The second shot does nothing for me because the guy is covering his face and I get the impression he does not want to be photographed, so it makes me feel like a voyeur.

The third shot also does nothing for me because the subject is too small and the composition is boring.
