Snapped this of my roofline, it's getting colder outside! My wifes entire C&C consisted of "meh".

Thoughts?

Sorry, I also vote "meh". I do see what you were going for, with the repeating pattern and the contrast between the frost and the shingles.... but there's no central focus point in the image. If there was something like a leaf lying on the roof, or if some of the shingles were torn up (obviously not ideal for the homeowner though!), it would have given the viewer something to focus on.

Yeah, I can certainly see your point. I'm not really in love with it either, just experimenting. Clearly, this one didn't work out!

You have to like the abstract thing which I think is a small market, I'd stick with sports you have been getting some great shots. I tried to shoot in a middle school gym last weekend and I wasn't really excited about a single picture, I was really surprised that I needed f1.8 to get to ISO800, I thought they were a little better lit than that.

No, now you feel my pain! Middle Schools are not very well lit like the High School Gyms.

I disagree, just because you're not good or comfortable at something or just because abstract is a niche (not sure I agree with this either), doesn't mean you shouldn't have at it. So you failed, at least you tried!

#1 Personally, I can't see any frost. It just looks like white shingles to me.
#2 It's not level.
#3 I think you'd be better off with sharpness throughout on this shot. That will remove the depth and will further the illusion of compression that your focal length is already giving you.
#4 I agree with BlackSheep, this is basically a texture shot. The lines only lead side to side, there is no subject, no feeling, seemingly no thought given to it.
#5 It looks soft overall... what lens and settings?

Keep trying!
